Villas of Montecoronaro is a small hamlet in the Municipality of Verghereto spread on a hill between the rivers Arpina and Teveriola, which slightly below Âflows into the Tiber. Around the year one thousand in its vicinity stood the small Abbey of Santa Maria del Trivio, whose name was derived from the junction of important mule that linked Emilia Romagna and Tuscany.The small village, divided in the nuclei of Poggio Villa, Supreme Villa and hawks, is arisen just below "mercatale", i.e. the place where there were markets and trade, then it developed along the state road Tiberina 3 bis, built in 1911, then became SP. 137. Today, the village has become famous thanks to the Pera Cocomerina: an ancient fruit, small, fragrant, roundish and the color red that only survives on a thirty of the plants in a restricted area, and that since 2003 and entered the ranks of the Slow Food Presidia.
